Paul Kalkbrenner makes the Wuhlheide shake – with lighting from GLP

Club feeling under the open sky – TSE AG delivers impressive techno spectacle with GLP JDC2 IP, impression X5 Bars and MAD MAXX

Internationally successful techno icon, Paul Kalkbrenner, returned to Berlin’s Wuhlheide in June  with two sold-out open-air shows. Berlin-based TSE AG handled the entire technical implementation of the live spectacle – including sound, lighting, video and rigging. The show’s lighting design was created by Kalkbrenner’s LD, Tom Webber, and 1314 Productions GmbH.

GLP brings structure and atmosphere to the big stage

For the design the team deployed a combination of JDC2 IPs, impression X5 Bars and MAD MAXX. A total of 24 JDC2 IPs were positioned partly in the truss and partly on the floor, serving as powerful blinders as well as fast strobe and beam effects, giving the show a pulsating, rhythmic depth.

They were complemented by 32 impression X5 Bar 1000s, positioned in three clearly structured lines: 10 units were downstage, another 10 upstage, and 12 as a horizontal line in the roof. This arrangement created impressive light curtains with additional depth from above, which, thanks to homogeneous colour gradients and precise control, were perfectly matched to the musical drama.

To the left and right of the DJ booth, eight MAD MAXX CW provided impressive visual accents: With their large dimensions, striking beams, high output and individually controllable lens structure, they served as almost iconic objects on the deliberately open stage with the artist at the centre.

TSE — with strong time management and a keen sense of atmosphere

“It’s impressive that Paul Kalkbrenner was able to fill the Wuhlheide two nights in a row – and that we managed to bring a real club atmosphere to this huge venue with the technology,” says Marcel Fery, managing director of TSE AG. “We brought the entire setup in during the morning and played the first show in the evening – it was a challenge, but it worked perfectly. As always, we depended heavily on the GLP equipment.”
