Vienna Philharmonic at Schönbrunn Palace, illuminated by GLP
Each year, the Vienna Philharmonic’s Summer Night Concert transforms the historic grounds of Schloss Schönbrunn into one of the world’s most celebrated open-air stages. This concert draws thousands of visitors to the palace gardens while being broadcast to viewers in over 70 countries, offering a rare opportunity to experience world-class music against a truly breathtaking backdrop.
Since 2018, GLP has been proud to play a role in this prestigious event, working in close partnership with the organizers to create an exceptional visual experience. Under the direction of lighting designer Jerry Appelt, the team realized a production that balanced creative artistry with flawless execution, casting light that elevated the performance, celebrated the architectural beauty of Schönbrunn Palace, and captivated both the live audience and international television viewers.
Lighting the Stage for a Global Audience
In 2025, more than 400 GLP fixtures were deployed across the expansive concert site, including 148 impression X5 IP Maxx, 76 impression S350 Wash, 61 impression X5, 48 FUSION X-PAR 12Z, 44 impression X5 IP, 40 Creos, and 16 MAD MAXX CW. This carefully selected configuration delivered the versatility, precision, and visual impact required to meet the exact demands of both the open-air performance and the multi-camera international television broadcast.
