GLP in action for Riot Games at the LEC Camera Days

TSE AG turns to impression X5 Bar 1000 and JDC2 IP for eSports project

At the beginning of the year, TSE AG conceived an impressive production design for the League of Legends’ EMEA Championship (LEC) Camera Days. The client was Riot Games—TSE’s first joint project with the renowned game developer and eSports organiser. The filmed sequences will serve as pre-match inserts in the studio and on the LED walls during the international stream.

For the project, TSE developed a unique visual concept: a room-filling mirror set, complemented by a dynamic lighting design, specifically tailored to the requirements of variable camera angles. The project was realised in a converted bowling alley in Berlin, and encompassed the entire technical set-up, including lighting, rigging, set construction, video and power. TSE’s inventory included a total of 72 impression X5 Bars and 36 JDC2 IP systems, enabling flexible and efficient project implementation.

GLP impression X5 1000 Bar as a movable light barrier

At the heart of the lighting design were 24 GLP impression X5 Bar 1000, positioned vertically between the mirrors. “We used them to create light barriers,” explains Björn Höschler, Senior Sales Manager at TSE, and responsible for the lighting design. “By moving the Bars we were able to create many different effects and images via the reflections in the mirrors. Particularly in conjunction with the mirrored surfaces, the set-up offered creative versatility. We were able to create a new light image for each camera angle—without changing the set-up. It was extremely efficient and visually very powerful.”

JDC2 IP as a creative content space

In parallel, 24 GLP JDC2 IP hybrid strobes were used in a matrix arrangement. “We did this deliberately,” Höschler continues. “The combination of strobe and DigiFX enabled us to create interesting backgrounds. The device is impressive, with its high flexibility: it’s more than just a simple light—it practically invites you to play with content when controlled as a matrix. The set-up worked excellently—both from a design and technical perspective.”

Both Riot Games and the TSE AG team were entirely satisfied with the results. In addition to TSE, drei d medien service GmbH was involved in the project, providing set construction, and STARKL!film was responsible for the camera concept and recording.
