GLP has added a significant new member to its successful impression X5 Series: the impression X5 Dot Wash. The most compact fixture in the line to date, it brings the colour quality, consistency and system logic of the X5 platform to an ultra-compact form factor barely larger than a classic MR16 “Birdie”.
The X5 Dot Wash has been designed for applications where powerful, high-quality light is required in the tightest of spaces: precise, flexible and as unobtrusive as possible. Whether deployed as a footlight in theatre productions, within scenery and props, in television studio setups or architectural detail lighting, the X5 Dot Wash fills a gap for which no truly convincing LED solution has previously existed – and does so in complete colour harmony with the wider X5 Series.
Miniature Format, Major Performance
The best compact fixture is one you never notice, but always rely on. The impression X5 Dot Wash is built with exactly that in mind. It combines extremely compact dimensions with a standard of light quality that would not previously have been taken for granted in a fixture of this size.
At its core is a 40-watt RGBL LED engine drawn from the X5 family, operating at up to 20 watts and delivering a light output of up to 550 lumens at 6,500 Kelvin. Weighing just approximately 580 grams, the fixture remains remarkably light and versatile. Thanks to its fanless design, the X5 Dot Wash operates in complete silence.
Bringing the Birdie into the Modern Age
The impression X5 Dot Wash is more than simply a compact wash light. It represents GLP’s response to the long-standing question of what a contemporary LED replacement for the classic MR16 Birdie might look like.
In theatre in particular – for footlights and concealed lighting positions – the Birdie has been a staple for decades. Its strength was never in spectacular features, but in making light available precisely where larger fixtures simply could not go. The X5 Dot Wash picks up that principle, but with considerably greater creative freedom, modern colour mixing and up-to-date control.
Precise Colour, Smooth Dimming
The X5 Dot Wash excels in the very areas where small fixtures have historically forced compromise. The combination of an RGBL LED engine and GLP’s acclaimed iQ.Gamut colour algorithm delivers precise colour mixing, consistent white points and finely graded pastel tones. Sixteen-bit colour control further enables smooth transitions and clean dimming curves – a feature of particular importance on theatre stages.
Innovative Manual Twist-Zoom
One technically noteworthy detail with real-world value is the integrated twist-zoom mechanism. By rotating the front lens, the X5 Dot Wash’s beam angle can be adjusted manually from 16° to 68° without altering the physical dimensions of the unit. In tight installation scenarios within scenery, props or architectural applications, this is a genuine advantage. Luminous flux also remains largely stable across the entire zoom range – an important consideration for those unwilling to accept the output losses typical of conventional mini-optics.
Greater Output in Saturated Colours with Colour Boost
The Colour Boost function gives the impression X5 Dot Wash an intelligent power management system that provides additional output when producing deep, saturated colours. This allows the fixture to achieve high intensity even in bold hues, well suited to accent lighting, atmospheric looks or pointed close-range effects.
Robust Enough for Any Environment
The X5 Dot Wash carries an IP65 rating, making it fully protected against dust, dirt and moisture. This considerably broadens its range of applications, from conventional indoor setups through to temporary or permanent outdoor use. A supply voltage of 24 – 48 V DC is sufficient; no dedicated external drivers or elaborate additional hardware are required. Control is available via DMX/RDM or wirelessly through GLP iQ.Mesh.
Various Mounting Options
The fixture has been designed with the practicalities of real-world deployment in mind. Integrated ¼" and ⅜" threaded sockets, am adjustable foot and a bracket for hanging installation provide maximum mounting flexibility. An optional adapter also allows the use of classic Birdie accessories such as barn doors.
X5 Quality — Now Available as an Ultra-Compact Static Fixture
With the impression X5 Dot Wash, GLP is not simply adding another model to the X5 Series, it is opening the platform in an entirely new direction. For the first time, the colour quality and consistency of the X5 family are available in the form of a static fixture.
For users, this means colours, white points and overall appearance remain consistent across the entire series, making the X5 Dot Wash equally at home as a standalone unit or as a discreet building block within a larger lighting system.
