FLEXIBILITY. FAMILY. FUTURE.

GLP German Light Products GmbH

GLP - German Light Products has stood for innovative lighting technology for the professional market since 1994. The pioneering spirit of GLP founder Udo Künzler was already fully expressed in the very first product idea. The Patend Light, for the development of which GLP was founded, was at that time a completely new fusion of the scanners already widely used in the disco sector and the moving lights which had not yet been brought to market maturity. Pure innovation and creative development joy!

In the course of the company's 25-year history, groundbreaking successes and bitter setbacks have occurred more than once, but one thing has remained the same throughout all the ups and downs: The irrepressible will to develop intelligent and innovative technical lighting solutions that enable lighting designers to create completely new artistic expressions. In this tradition, worldwide industry standards such as the impression X4 series were developed, as were the newer, extremely powerful KNV LED modules, the versatile hybrid strobe JDC1 or the HIGHLANDER Wash with discharge lamp.

With a trained ear, the GLP team has been listening to the touring, theatre and studio market worldwide for over two decades, always coming up with surprising solutions that meet the creative needs of lighting and stage designers and effortlessly multiply their expressive possibilities. The uncompromising flexibility and performance of the headlamps developed by GLP make this possible.

The close, cooperative relationship with renowned designers, production companies and rental companies all over the world is the foundation on which the GLP family has always stood and still stands today. Every new or further development of a product is the result of a fruitful exchange between GLP as a manufacturer and the users in the market. The firm belief in partnerships that offer all parties involved room to grow and develop is deeply ingrained in the GLP DNA and distinguishes the family company GLP from other market participants.

To this day, GLP continues to develop new products at its headquarters in Karlsbad, Baden-Württemberg. The success of the high-quality, creatively playable lighting solutions, however, quickly allowed the company to grow internationally. Today, GLP is represented in numerous markets with branches in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Great Britain, France and Sweden and has been able to steadily expand its position as one of the world's leading manufacturers of professional lighting technology for the entertainment industry.

Under the motto "Flexibility - Family - Future", the company remains true to its roots and values, while its account managers and developers are already putting out feelers for the next lighting game changer...

Idea and Foundation

GLP German Light Products GmbH is founded in 1994 by Udo Künzler. The driving force behind the founding was Udo’s idea of an innovative spotlight that combined elements of the already established scanner technology with those of the then still nascent moving light technology. The product in question was, of course, the Patend Light. Today, it is considered a classic in professional lighting. However, early in the development process, Udo realized that a product as complex as the Patend Light would require much more time for development than he had originally planned...

1994

Starting Small. Startec 2000.

To keep the young company running, Udo, together with his uncle Hartmut Braun, initially developed a classic cash cow: the Startec 2000 scanner, which premiered at the PLASA Show in 1996 and was very well received.

1995

Patend Light

In 1996, the Patend Light is finally launched on the market. The hybrid device, initially equipped with a 575-watt discharge lamp, is one of the stars of the PLASA show that year. Customers are enthusiastic. Competitors are in an uproar. A 1,200 watt version of the Patend Light follows later.

1996

GLP MAX, Mighty Scan and Pocket Scan

In the following years, GLP continues to develop proven technologies. The scanner models GLP MAX, Mighty Scan, and Pocket Scan stir up the still-strong scanner market. During this time, DMX is becoming the communication standard in the entertainment industry, and GLP also begins developing DMX controllers.

1997

YPOC-Series

After a few rather bumpy years, the YPOC series is launched, which is based on proven developments and is intended to help the company get back on its feet after a development failure. The YPOC series sells well and paves the way for the revolutionary impression series, which will consolidate GLP's position in the professional lighting industry for years to come.

2001

impression 90

The impression series, which continues to this day, began with the phenomenal success of the impression 90. It marks the first use of GLP’s signature “baseless design,” which significantly reduces the form factor of the fixture. For the first time, GLP succeeds in eliminating the bulky base of the device by housing all electronics in the arms of the moving light. To this day, GLP products are recognizable by this trademark.

In 2007, the impression 90 is the smallest, lightest, and brightest LED fixture on the market — a fact that earns GLP many fans and paves the way to becoming one of the major players in the international lighting industry. Shortly after its launch, Germany’s most popular TV show at the time, "Wetten, dass?!", uses over 200 units in its summer special in Mallorca. Within a short period, several of the largest dry-hire providers invest in large quantities of the impression 90. In the same year, GLP appoints Kasper Gissel as Business Director. The experienced lighting professional, with excellent international connections, has since helped to further advance the GLP brand globally.

2007

impression 120 RZ and internationalization

With advancing LED technology and increasingly powerful yet smaller LEDs, GLP launches the impression 120 RZ in 2009. It features 120 LEDs in a housing of the same size as its predecessor — another successful product from GLP.

Mark Ravenhill founds GLP USA. With his experience and extensive network, he quickly builds up a professional team. The U.S. market welcomes the innovative lighting solutions from Karlsbad with open arms. The impression 90, in particular, makes a strong impression. Since then, hardly any major production in the U.S. takes place without fixtures from GLP.

In the same year, GLP UK is established as another GLP subsidiary.

2009

GLP Asia

GLP continues to grow and opens up new markets with the founding of GLP Asia.

2010

impression X4

GLP introduces impression X4 and impression X4S, which rapidly become the industry standard. Their “baseless design”, combined with high-quality LEDs, zoom optics, RGBW color mixing and a versatile effects engine make them a favorite of lighting designers worldwide.

2012

In-house Production in China

In 2013, GLP establishes its own production facility in China.

2013

impression X4 Bar

Another classic sees the light of day: GLP introduces the impression X4 Bar 20, an LED bar featuring 20 (later 10 as the X4 Bar 10) RGBW LED pixels of 15 watts each, individual pixel control, motorized tilt, and a zoom range of 7–50 degrees. The X4 Bar was the first device on the market to offer the option of combining several bars to create a seamless line of light with a constant pixel pitch - a feature that still delights users today.

2015

New headquarters

GLP acquires a new company building in Karlsbad. With 3,000 square meters of office space and 7,000 square meters of warehouse space, it provides the ideal conditions for the company’s continued course of expansion.

2016

JDC1

With the innovative hybrid strobe JDC1, the next gamechanger is ready to launch. The combination of a high-power strobe line and individually controllable RGB panels, together with motorized tilt, has made the JDC1 enormously successful worldwide to this day.

2017

FUSION

GLP takes over the EHRGEIZ brand from B&K Braun, which has since been continued under the FUSION by GLP brand and focuses on weatherproof devices with an attractive price-performance ratio.

2018

impression X5 series

Still in the foothills of the COVID-19 situation, GLP takes another step into the future. The X5 Series is introduced, impressing users with higher output and exceptional precision in color mixing. The first product launched is the impression X5 Wash.

2022

X5, JDC2 IP, MAD MAXX

The successful X5 Series continues to grow. New additions include the impression X5 Compact, impression X5 IP Maxx, impression X5 atom, impression X5 Bar 1000, and impression X5 IP Bar 1000.

At the end of 2023, GLP announces a radically advanced successor to the JDC1 for the LDI Show in Las Vegas — the JDC2 IP. The promise: “Bigger. Better. Brighter.” Top performance, exceptional flexibility, video playback via NDI stream, and a large library of built-in video-like effects (GLP DigiFX) open up a wealth of new creative possibilities.

In 2024, GLP celebrates its 30th anniversary at the headquarters in Karlsbad together with customers, partners, and friends from around the world. On this occasion, the GLP MAD MAXX — the world’s first LED FatBeam / Skytracker — is showcased for the first time. The long-anticipated fixture, eagerly awaited by designers, is officially launched the same year at the LDI Show in Las Vegas.

With the S500 Series, the successful impression S350 Series receives a powerful update in various versions.

2024

JDC1 Burst 1, Wild Bar 16

With the JDC Burst 1, GLP continues its success story with a significantly more powerful strobe/wash hybrid. Inspired by the innovative technology of the JDC2 IP and building on the success of the legendary JDC1, the JDC Burst 1 delivers an impressive combination of output, color intensity, and flexibility.

The Wild Bar 16 is introduced as a powerful and versatile LED tilt bar, specifically designed for use in harsh environments and outdoor events.
