‍GLP News - September 2026

Hello Visitor,

A milestone birthday, an anniversary in the UK, a new colleague in the US and GLP fixtures in action on stages around the world: there is plenty to share in this edition. We celebrate GLP founder Udo Künzler’s 60th birthday, look back on ten years of GLP UK, a successful PLASA show, and welcome Aaron Vengrow to the GLP US sales team.

We also take you to the German rock musical HERILO, the Moorea Festival in France and Spiritbox’s North American tour.

Enjoy the read!

Happy 60th Birthday, Udo!

We would like to wish GLP founder Udo Künzler a very happy 60th birthday – even if none of us can quite believe the number.

In 1994, Udo founded GLP around a specific product idea and has led the company through more than three decades with courage, technical instinct and a great deal of determination. His ideas have helped shape the lighting industry, transforming a small workshop into a globally leading company. Throughout it all, Udo has remained someone with principles, a sense of humour and a genuine willingness to listen – qualities that continue to define the GLP spirit.

Dear Udo, we wish you every happiness, good health and plenty of special moments with your loved ones. We hope you have a wonderful birthday and enjoy every minute of the celebrations.

Successful PLASA 2026: GLP UK celebrates ten years

Three busy show days, plenty of great conversations, new products to get hands-on with – and, of course, lots of seriously good coffee: PLASA 2026 was a resounding success for GLP UK. Joined by international colleagues, the team celebrated its 10th anniversary while showcasing the latest additions to the GLP portfolio: the impression FR2, Wild Bar 8 and TWYN.

The JDC2 IP workshops led by GLP Product Specialist René Geissel also drew strong interest. In small groups, designers and programmers were able to explore the latest DigiFX, NDI and updated Canvas features for themselves. All in all, a fitting way to celebrate ten years of GLP UK.

Aaron Vengrow joins GLP US sales team

GLP US welcomes Aaron Vengrow to its sales team, where he will be responsible for the Central US region. With extensive experience in technical sales, product demonstrations, customer education and training, Aaron brings a deep understanding of the North American entertainment lighting market.

Having most recently worked for Martin Professional, he also draws on a background in live production and touring. Aaron will work closely with GLP customers, partners and lighting professionals as the company continues to grow its presence across the US.

GLP WildBar 16 and impression X5 Compact for German rock musical HERILO

For the rock musical „HERILO – The Wheel Keeps Turning“, lighting designer Leo Herrmann of Lumenlabor developed a concept that began with the venue itself. By turning the production through 90 degrees, the team created a stage almost 32 metres wide at the energie schwaben arena in Kaufbeuren.

Using 128 GLP WildBar 16 fixtures and 64 impression X5 Compacts, Herrmann created a fully symmetrical lighting architecture that emphasised the new stage geometry while combining theatrical lighting with rock ’n’ roll dynamics. The WildBar 16 provided clean lines and spatial depth, while the X5 Compact delivered flexible, sculptable light for scenes, moods and effect cues.

JDC2 IP, JDC Burst 1 and MAD MAXX at the Moorea Festival

At the Moorea Festival in La Chapelle-Blanche-Saint-Martin, France, eight GLP JDC2 IP fixtures, ten JDC Burst 1 and a single MAD MAXX shaped the design of Stage B. Lighting designer Loïc Esparraga of MIND used the weatherproof hybrid strobes for punchy white-light, wash and pixel effects, while the MAD MAXX sent far-reaching beams across the festival site.

The three-day festival brought together international electronic music acts including Timmy Trumpet, Dimitri Vegas and Oliver Heldens. For French GLP distributor MID, the production also provided an opportunity to showcase current GLP products in real festival conditions.

20 GLP JDC2 IP fixtures create a visual canvas on Spiritbox tour

For the North American tour of Canadian metalcore band Spiritbox, lighting designer PJ Carruth programmed the entire timecode-driven show using just one fixture type: 20 GLP JDC2 IP units. Arranged in a single row at the back of the stage, the hybrid strobes became one continuous visual canvas with the new Firmware 2.0.

Carruth relied primarily on the JDC2 IP’s onboard DigiFX and new Canvas Mapping, which distributes content across all fixtures without the need for a media server. NDI video feeds were also used to complement the design, creating precise, musically synchronised looks that gave every song its own visual language.
