There’s plenty happening at GLP this May: an important firmware update for the JDC2 IP, a new chapter for GLP’s Marketing, and strong case stories from both the theatre and the touring world. We also take a closer look at the new TWYN and the creative freedom that opens up when two independent lighting systems come together in a single fixture. And if you want to see how GLP’s X5 series supports a major arena show built around projection, musical-style storytelling and high-energy dance moments, DJ BoBo’s “The Great Adventure” is well worth a look.

JDC2 IP Firmware V2.0.1: important update for greater performance and more efficient workflows | | | GLP recommends that all JDC2 IP users install the new Firmware V2.0.1. The update increases output by 25 per cent, simplifies the setup workflow and expands the DigiFX functions for dynamic content directly from the lighting console – without the need for an external media server. It also brings clear advantages in modern networked and media-driven environments: integration of Canvas, Device Position and external NDI sources has been improved, while Art-Net and sACN control options have been expanded. Additional fixture settings provide greater flexibility in day-to-day production use. Important note: Firmware V2.0.1 introduces new control modes and updated DMX layouts. Existing show files are therefore not compatible. GLP recommends scheduling the update carefully – ideally ahead of new projects or after current productions have finished, rather than during an ongoing show. | | Get Started: Update Your Fixtures and Discover the New Setup | | How to Update Your GLP JDC2 to Software 2.0 | Step-by-Step Tutorial | | | | How to Configure Your JDC2 Setup | Complete Version 2.0 Tutorial Guide | | | |
| | Julian von den Stemmen appointed GLP Marketing Director | | | GLP is opening a new chapter in its marketing activities: from 1 July, Julian von den Stemmen will join the company as Marketing Director. He succeeds Ulrich Steinle, who is leaving GLP at his own request after 17 years to pursue a new entrepreneurial direction. Von den Stemmen brings experience from both the professional lighting industry and technology-driven product environments. Following positions at Robe Lighting, BMW M and Fanatec, he joins GLP with extensive expertise in international marketing, digital communication, product and technology management. At GLP, his focus will be on presenting light not simply through technical specifications, but as a creative tool – through real-world showcases, digital storytelling and the perspective of the people who use the products. During a transition phase, he will work alongside Uli Steinle to ensure continuity across GLP’s international marketing activities. | | |
| | Brighton College equips new Cairns Theatre with GLP | | | Brighton College has equipped its new Cairns Theatre with several GLP product series. The multifunctional 400-seat theatre now features impression X5 Wash, WildBar 16, JDC Burst 1, Creos and 60 wireless Nexus RGBW panels, among others. For Technical & Facilities Manager Joe Wailes, flexibility, portability and IP65 protection were key factors in the decision-making process. While the X5 Wash fixtures serve as permanently installed top and backlight washes, the WildBar 16, Creos and Nexus units can be used flexibly throughout the building, across the campus and in the foyer. Wailes is particularly impressed by the colour mixing of the impression X5 – from natural skin tones for theatre work to rich, saturated colours for music events. Another major advantage: Wild Bar 16 and Creos use the same LED engine as the X5, allowing consistent colour matching across the entire lighting design. | | | |
| | GLP X5 Series shapes DJ BoBo’s “The Great Adventure” Tour 2026 | | | When Swiss dance music icon DJ BoBo heads out on a major arena adventure, the result is far more than a conventional concert look. “The Great Adventure” creates a fully staged world of projection, performance, dance and storytelling. German-based GERDON DESIGN has developed a lighting design that supports the show’s visual storyline with precision while delivering the energy needed for the big dance moments. The rig includes 113 fixtures from GLP’s X5 Series: impression X5, impression X5 Compact and impression X5 IP Maxx. Their roles range from broad washes across large performance scenes to footlight, ambience and effects, as well as powerful uplight accents on the B-stage. For Thomas Gerdon, it’s all about the combination of brilliant colour mixing, high precision and a consistent visual language across one series. This allows content colours to be picked up, contrasted and carried across the entire stage – forming the lighting backbone for a production that is more of a musical than a traditional concert. | | | |
| | GLP TWYN: two lighting systems, one moving head, new creative possibilities | | | With TWYN, GLP introduces a fixture that brings two independent lighting systems together in a compact dual-face moving head: a powerful wash side based on the RGBL LED engine from the X5 and Creos families, and a JDC-Burst-1-inspired hybrid strobe side with white strobe and RGBW segments. The creative advantage comes when both sides are used together. While one side works as a wash, beam or strobe, the other can simultaneously light surfaces, backgrounds or scenic structures. The result is complex looks, greater visual depth and dynamic spatial layers from a single fixture – without the need for additional equipment. With continuous pan and tilt rotation, iQ.Gamut colour stability, flexible mounting options, an IP65-rated housing and efficient case logistics, TWYN is designed for touring, clubs, events and mobile productions. The fixture is already shipping.u. | | |
